Version and updates
- See your version: the interactive terminal shows it in the startup banner, and
houston -vprints it. - Update notices: once a day, Houston quietly checks for a newer release. If there is one, it prints a short notice the next time it draws a prompt, with the command that upgrades this copy, such as
brew update && brew upgrade houston,npm i -g @houston-code/cli@latest, or re-running the install script (or the download link when it can't tell how Houston was installed). - One-shot runs: a
-prun prints the same notice on stderr after its answer, only when stderr is a terminal, and never in CI or with--json. - Never in the way: the check never blocks startup or delays a run. A failed check (offline, timed out, rate limited) is silent, keeps the last known result, and is retried after an hour.
- Turn it off: set
HOUSTON_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1(orNO_UPDATE_NOTIFIER).
The desktop app updates itself separately.
