GitHub tools

When the gh CLI is installed and signed in, Houston offers dedicated tools for the GitHub loop.

What the less obvious ones do:

  • gh_pr_review submits an approve, request-changes, or comment review.
  • gh_pr_merge lands an open PR (merge commit, squash, or rebase, optionally deleting the branch).
  • gh_pr_set_state closes or reopens a PR, marks a draft ready for review, or converts it back to a draft.
  • gh_issue_set_state closes an issue (as completed, not planned, or a duplicate of another issue) or reopens it.

How they run:

  • Your own gh. They drive your local gh, so no token is stored in the app.
  • Approval. Each call is network-gated (it always asks), and the ones that change something are refused in plan mode.
  • Network on approval. They run gh outside the shell sandbox, so they reach the network once approved, unlike a raw gh in run_shell.
  • Optional. If gh isn't installed, these tools aren't offered, and everything else still works.
