Running your own commands (!)
Type ! and a command to run it in your own shell without leaving the session: !git status, !npm test. Output streams as it happens.
- The agent sees it too. What you ran and what it printed is added to the conversation, so you can follow up with "now fix those failures" with nothing to paste back. Long output is trimmed to its last lines, where errors usually are.
- It's your shell, not the agent's. It runs unsandboxed, in your project folder, with your environment, exactly as if you'd typed it in another window. The sandbox exists to confine the agent, which can be steered by instructions hidden in what it reads; a command you typed yourself is your own decision.
!alone, or!in the middle of a line, is ordinary text.
